At Least 7 NCAA Teams Include Mormons
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- At least six teams appearing in "March
Madness," the annual NCAA tournament to determine the best college
team in the US, include Mormon players on their teams. BYU is back in
the tournament for the first time since 1995, along with fellow Utah
teams Utah State and Southern Utah University. But Mormon players are
also on Stanford, Duke, Wisconsin and Western Kentucky's teams.
Meanwhile, in the NBA, Shawn Bradley had a strong week, playing 130
minutes over four games and scoring 35 points with 35 boards.
Unfortunately, two other Mormon players, Travis Knight and Mark Pope
are not getting any playing time. Mark Madsen had an off week, as did
Sacramento's Scot Pollard.
In golf, most Mormon players took the week off. Dan Forsman was in
the top five going into the final round of the Honda Classic, but
blew the lead with a 76 in the last round. Senior tour member Bruce
Summerhays meanwhile maintained his record of making the cut in every
event he entered. Summerhays tied for 39th in the SBC Senior Classic.
