| Media Find LDS Name Request Unpersuasive |
| An article in the Salt Lake Tribune says
that most media are either refusing or studying the LDS Church's
request that they stop using the terms "Mormon Church" and "LDS
Church." Quoting editors with the Associated Press and New York Times
as well as several Utah newspapers, the Tribune's Bob Mims was only
able to find acceptance of the stance from the LDS Church-owned
Deseret News, which nevertheless indicated that it had not yet
formally adopted the style change. |

| LDS Church Criticizes CNN Reporter for Story |
| Bruce L. Olsen, Managing Director of the
Public Affairs Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints sent a letter Friday to CNN.com Senior Writer Jamie Allen,
criticizing Allen for violating "the most basic tenet of journalism
ethics -- objectivity." Olsen was responding to an article posted on
CNN.com Thursday which suggested that the LDS Church's dominance of
Utah led some to leave. |

| Utah Beer Ads Poke Fun at Mormon Culture, Offend Some |
| The Wasatch front is being bombarded with
irreverent radio ads and billboards lampooning what Wasatch Beer
refers to as "Utah's prevailing culture". The latest in Park City's
Kirwin Communications ad agency brainstorm have outraged some members
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and brought smiles
to some in the community. |

| Southern Virginia College, 'BYU East' Has Success in Sight |
| Less than five years after converting a failing
college into a private Mormon school, the team that runs Southern Virginia
College is on the brink of success. The college's student body has
quintupled during that time to 375 students, its endowment has increased to
$600,000, and the school is on track to accreditation. School officials also
say that their success has led to interest in starting other Mormon schools
worldwide. |

| Team of Mormons Called NCAA Tourney's Underdogs |
| The coach is LDS. Seven players served LDS missions and
CBS Sportsline's Mark Alesia says they are the underdogs of the coming NCAA
tournament; the team least likely to win it all, but that has the Cinderella
hopes of its fans and many across the US. The Southern Utah University
Thunderbirds beat favored Valparaiso last night 63-59, earning their first
Mid-Continent Conference Tournament and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. For
them, March Madness has begun. |

| Judge's Ruling Will Delay Resolution of Census Lawsuit |
| US District Court Judge Dee Benson declined a
request to impanel a special three-judge court to hear Utah's challenge to
the Census count, and in the process delayed the resolution of the case.
Benson ruled that calling the three judge panel required a challenge to the
count's constitutionality, but since Utah hadn't raised such a challenge, he
would have to hear the case himself. |

| Paula Houston, a returned missionary and active
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has spent
some time viewing hard-core pornography. While these seemingly
incongruent facts may bring pause, Houston is only doing her job.
Houston is a conservative 41-year-old graduate from Brigham Young
University and is also the newly appointed "Porn Czar" for the state
of Utah. |

| Scot and Maurine Proctor are the proud parents of
11 children and "Meridian," an on-line magazine that reflects the
beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That
said, Meridian is more than just another on-line magazine. For the
Proctors, the magazine provides an alternative media viewpoint
calculated to counteract mainstream media outlets that are
increasingly dismissive of religion and faith-based living. |

| The LDS Church's role in Utah was criticized
in a recent thread on the online bulletin board at slashdot.org, a
website featuring news and support for computer professionals. The
Salt Lake Tribune reported on the thread, quoting University of Utah
professor Matthew Burbank as suggesting that the thread can't be
dismissed lightly. "It's a problem, from a public relations
standpoint," said Burbank. |

| LDS Student Witnessed Santee Shootings |
| LDS student Brian Wheeler was walking out of
a classroom at Santana High School Monday morning when the shooting
started. The 17-year-old junior at the high school, located in
Santee, California just outside of San Diego, had attended early
morning seminary before school, and just two hours later witnessed a
tragedy that schocked the nation. |

| Mormon restaurant owner Rosa Linda Aguirre has
found success caters to her customers, and that includes Catholic
customers during Lent. Aguirre's unique recipes use prickly pear
cactus in burritos, soup and tacos, and she has found that her
specialty is especially popular with customers who abstain from
eating meat on Fridays and on Ash Wednesday. |
