Osmond clan boasts 2nd star generation

OREM, UTAH -- Meet Nathan, Scott, Doug, Jon, Alex, and Tyler... They are the Osmonds Second Generation. Nathan has been performing since the age of four. Scott remembers studying Spanish verbs in between two shows a day. Doug toured with New Kids on the Block at age 10. In order to have time for music, Jon started college at the age of 16. Meanwhile, Alex, 12, and Tyler, 10 have been waiting to perform since they were babies.

At a time when teen music has sexual messages in it, the Osmonds promote their values and beliefs through their music. "You want to fit in and be hip, but at the same time it's important that our songs reflect our values and beliefs," Nathan said. "We've changed lyrics before to make sure that happens."

So, what is it like to be an Osmond? Other than having a famous name linked to pop music, along with a high expectation value, Nathan Osmond states that it is no different than being a Miller or Johnson. "In our family we do what we love, and for us that's singing."

So far the Osmonds have five albums and have been on international tours, They performed with Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. They've also played with the Beach Boys, Alabama and 'N Sync.

"We met Howie D. of the Backstreet Boys and I was telling him I thought he was great, and he said, 'I've always wanted to be an Osmond Boy,' " Doug, 22, remembers. " It was the weirdest thing to hear, but I guess the Osmonds were one of the first boy bands."
