Missionary Wounded In Family History Library Returns To Service
KSL Radio 15Jun00 P2

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - An LDS Missionary who was shot in the face during the April 1999 attack at the LDS Church's Family History Center, has returned to serve another full-time mission in the Library. Sister Nellie Leighton says that she has been given a second chance at life after the attack.

In April 1999, Leighton was one of those wounded in the attack on the Library by Sergei Barbarin. Shot in the face, Leighton suffered broken bones in her cheek, a broken jaw, and shattered teeth. Her toungue was nearly cut in half by the shot.

Leighton says that she is fine now, except for some problems with her dentures. But, she says she can't hurt any worse while serving as a missionary than she would at home, so she decided to return to serving.
