LDS Student Featured In Modesto 'Teen Hall Of Fame'
Modesto CA Bee 25May00 P2
By Marijke Rowland: Bee Staff Writer

HUGHSON, CALIFORNIA -- LDS student Richard Thompson, a senior at Hughson High School was featured in the Modesto Bee's Teen Hall of Fame yesterday. Thompson was honored for his musical accomplishments, as well as for his academic credentials.

The Bee calls Thompson a "one-person music department." In addition to playing both piano and clarinet, Thompson teaches piano to eight students and writes songs. He is good enough that he was selected for the All-County and All-State honor bands. Thompson started writing songs at age 15, and even earned an honorable mention in an international hymn-writing contest.

Thompson is an Eagle Scout, with more than 55 merit badges, 34 more than required for the rank. He has a 3.8 GPA and this year branched out into politics, working as a precinct captain for the Yes On Proposition 22 campaign.

He plans to attent BYU and serve an LDS mission after he graduates from high school.
