A Steve Young Pregnancy Confusion
Salt Lake Tribune 29Mar00 P2
By Paul Rolly and JoAnn Jacobsen-Wells: The Salt Lake Tribune

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Is Steve Young's wife Barbara pregnant? That's what nurses at LDS Hosptial wondered when a doctor's answering service called asking for a prescription for Barbara Young's morning sickness. 49er quarterback Steve Young married Barbara Graham just two weeks ago, and the idea that Barbara might be pregnant thrilled the nurses.

But the nurses were mistaken. It wasn't the same Steve Young. However, the similarities between the two men are striking. Both played football in Utah, the second Young for the University of Utah as a punter from 1991-92. Both men married women named Barbara with last names starting with G (Salt Lake City's Young married Barbara Gray). And both went to law school and have passed the bar (49er Steve Young in California, the other Young in Utah).

But when walking down the street, Utah's Steve Young is frequently mistaken for former BYU quarterback Ty Detmer, rather than his namesake. Of course, some people go so far as to ask him if he is Detmer, and Young is then forced to say, "No, I am Steve Young."
