LDS Politician's Freudian Slip
Salt Lake Tribune 3May00 P2
By Paul Rolly and JoAnn Jacobsen-Wells: The Salt Lake Tribune

LOGAN, UTAH -- While many pundits wonder how many Mormons are Republican, now they may start asking how Mormon are Utah Republicans. Paige Marriott, who is a candidate for the Republican National Committee Women from Utah spoke to the Cache County GOP convention last weekend, ending her remarks with, "In the name of Jesus Christ . . . "

Marriott stopped as soon as she realized her faux pas, ending her political speech as if she were speaking in an LDS sacrament meeting. Many LDS Church members have made the same kind of mistake, but rarely does it happen so publically and so obviously.

Not missing a beat, county party leader Clair Ellis got up and finished-off Marriott's ending by adding, "Amen!"
