Another Mormon Prop. 22 Suicide?
PlanetOut News 10Mar00 N1
By PlanetOut News Staff

MOHAVE COUNTY, ARIZONA -- Planet Out News says it has not been able to confirm or refute reports that a second LDS Church member has committed suicide over the attitudes of LDS Church members towards homosexuals. According to the report, David James "DJ" Thompson of Mohave County, Arizona, committed suicide on March 9th, leaving notes blaming the LDS Church.

Planet Out News credits Chris Rizo of "The California Triangle" for the report. Rizo was the first to report the earlier suicide of LDS Church member Stuart Matis of Los Altos, California, also covered by Mormon-News [see]. Matis' suicide note did not blame the LDS Church's support of California's recently-passed Proposition 22, but did express the hope that his story could change the attitudes of LDS Church members towards homosexuals.

But Rizo reports that just hours before his suicide, Thompson sent e-mail messages to a number of friends and family members calling Proposition 22 "a last straw in my lifelong battle to see peace in the world" and denouncing LDS leadership for its "anti-Christ-like political conduct."
