Former Mission President Dean Worlton Dies

AMERICAN FORK, UTAH -- Dean Timbrel Worlton, 85, who was president of the LDS Church's Switzerland Zurich mission from 1977-1980 died on February 1st. Worlton was also the principal of Lehi High School and worked for the Alpine School District.

Worlton's roots were in Lehi, Utah, where he graduated from Lehi High School after serving as its Student Body President. He served in the German-Austrian Mission from 1934 to 1937, seeing the rise of Nazi Germany while there.

Following his mission, Worlton earned a bachelor's degree in Biological Science from the University of Utah, and went to work as a teacher in Algebra and English and counselor at Lehi High School. In 1959 he was made principal of the school.

While principal, Worlton completed a Masters degree in School Administration at BYU, which was awarded in 1962. He later worked as Director of Pupil Personnel and Supervisor of Special Education Services for the Alpine School District. He also served on the American Fork Hospital Board of Trustees.

Worlton's church service included president of the Lehi Stake before he was called to preside over the Switzerland Zurich mission. Following his mission presidency, he serve as a counselor in the Mission Training Center presidency and as a sealer in the Provo Temple.
