Crews detonate pipe bomb found at Taylorsville church

TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH - A maintenance worker at an LDS chapel in Taylorsville, Utah, southwest of Salt Lake City, discovered a pipe bomb about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7th. The "bomb," actually a pipe stuffed with sparklers, was leaning against a storage shed.

The Salt Lake County bomb squad was called and X-rayed the pipe, but were unable to determine if it was a "live device" or not. To make sure it was safe, the bomb squad detonated the pipe. Fire investigators are still trying to determine if the "bomb" was a threat, or was just a child's experiment left behind accidentally.
