Reno Temple Update
By Donald E. Asp
This evening (6/22/99) the Reno City Council heard the appeal filed
against the Planning Commission recommendation for approval of the
requested special use permit for the proposed Reno Temple.
Tonight's Reno City Council agenda item read:
B. Staff Report: Case No. 366-99 (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints) - Request for approval of special use permits to: (a) construct
a ±10,500 square foot temple facility; and (b) allow fills of 10 feet or
more located along the east side of Beaumont Parkway ±2,000 feet
northwest of its intersection with Avenida de
Landa in an MF-14 (Multi-Family) zone. [Ward 5]
The Planning Commission recommends approval of the requested special
use permit, subject to conditions by a vote of six in favor; none
opposed; one absent.
This evening the Reno City Council upheld the Planning Commissions
approval. If all proceeds as planned we can expect to see a
groundbreaking in the month of July. Prayers of the faithful will
continue to move us closer to the opening of a Temple here in Northern
Nevada.
Now is the time to prepare ourselves to attend groundbreakings,
dedications, and invite our friends and investigators to attend. This
is a rare opportunity that must not be missed.
