Cougar golfers lose, but future is looking bright
BYU finished a disappointing seventh-place in the NCAA golf championships,
but the team has shown that its future is very bright. All five players on
the current team will return next year, and coach Bruce Brockbank says that
the team will get better, both because of blue-chip recruits the Cougars
are after and because current team members will improve.
Two sides to Mountain West Conference move
While the acronym MWC doesn't roll off the tongue like WAC did, most BYU
coaches, athletes, fans and administrators are thrilled to leave the
oversized "super-WAC" and get into the eight-team Mountain West Conference
that officially starts on July 1.
Versatility Is Benchmark For Jacobsen
Chad Jacobsen of Springville High in Utah received The Salt Lake Tribune Boys
Prep Athlete of the Year Award.
Johnny Miller's sons to play in NCAA tournament
Andy, Scott and Todd Miller are keeping a family tradition alive by playing
for the BYU Golf Team. Their Father, the Pro Hall of Fame Golfer, Johnny
Miller, also played for BYU.
'Colombian Connection' linked to BYU
Jose Garrido, Manuel Merizalde, Scott and Andy Miller and Billy Harvey of
Brigham Young University are competing this week at Hazeltine National Golf
Club in Chaska, Minn. in the NCAA tournament. Garrido and Merizalde are
from Columbia.
