Mormon composers to be featured in Concert

In both Salt Lake City and New York City, LDS Soprano Ruth Ellis will present a program of music written by classical LDS composers, including Crawford Gates, Robert Manookin, Murray Boren and Robert Cundick. Entitled, "Out of Obscurity: Mormon American Art Song," the program includes lullibies, love songs, songs about the seasons, comdey and more. The music represents a unique look at the music of Mormon composers in the last 50 years.

The songs will be performed in New York City first, at the Hubbard Recital Hall (Manhattan School of Music) 120 Claremont Avenue (122nd Street). The performance will be on June 11th at 8:00 pm. At the New York Concert, Ellis will be accompanied by Scott Holden.

In Salt Lake, Ellis will present the music on Temple Square in the Assembly Hall on July 7th at 7:30 pm. There she will be accompanied by Kay Hicks Ward, one of the composers whose music is featured. The other three living composers of the music to be presented, Crawford Gates, Robert Cundick and Murray Boren, are also scheduled to be present.
