LavaStorm Builds World's Largest Genealogy Web Site, Launched Today by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
PRNewswire 24May99 C9
by LavaStorm to handle the fast growth and massive use, which was projected

http://www.familysearch.org, free to users, may be among the most popular destinations on the Internet, already generating up to seven million hits daily. The site is expected to experience between 10-15 million daily hits.

LavaStorm also announced that V.Miller Newton, former CEO of Monster.com had become its chief executive officer.

As to the newest site, Newton says, "With this announcement, the Church has done for genealogy what Amazon.com did for books. Amazon has an inventory of 4 million books. Familysearch.org will initially exceed 400 million names."

The genealogy trend, sometimes referred to as "roots mania" is one of the fastest and largest uses of the Internet. The Church is considered the world leader in the genealogical area and with this new internet site, it will help up to 10 million users a day.

"We're very pleased that we partnered with LavaStorm on this critically important and historic project. Few other Internet systems developers could have built such a powerful site so rapidly," said Randy Bryson, Director of FamilySearch Internet for the Church.
