HILL AFB Commander Promises to Increase the Hiring of Racial Minorities

A group protesting a decision by an official at Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, Utah, was not happy with the response they received. The Hispanic group Image de Utah was upset with Major General Richard Roellig talking to members of the LDS First Presidency about using LDS employment services to help with staffing situations at the airbase. 27 hundred positions need to be filled in the next 3 years.

Image de Utah leader Chris Martinez wanted an apology from Maj. Gen.Roellig because other religions were excluded in the discussion. Instead, Roellig said that while the base would try to increase the hiring of people from racial minorities, no apology was given for dealing with LDS leaders.

Roellig says, "Diversification is something we're going to try and incorporate into the equation," said Roellig. "We haven't done too well to date, but we're trying to make the changes and the applications."
