Ground Broken for Monument at Site of Mountain Meadow Massacre
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on Monday, May 17th
for a new memorial at Mountain Meadows to commemorate the 120 victims
killed in the 1857 massacre that has since haunted the LDS Church.
LDS approach to '60s issues still leaving its mark
Mormon legislators in Utah learned how to handle controversial political
issues from the way that LDS leades handled the issues of the 1960s, says
Utah State Archivist Jeffrey Johnson.

Laura Maffly-Kipp developed a major interest in Mormons while doing graduate
work in American history at Yale University. Maffly-Kipps is not a member of
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but has done tremendous
research into the impact that Mormonism has had in the migration to the
western United States.
