BYU's President Bateman is making a dream a reality with respect to BYU
becoming a virtual university.
President Bateman recently said that on-campus education will be streamllined
over time with the aid of technology.
Bateman's plan includes using the internet to improve on-campus classes and
to offer courses worldwide. Bateman also said that the school's goal in 1998
was to have 50 courses on the Internet and has a goal of more than 300 within
the next five years.
This is different from the Division of Continuing Study which includes all
forms of off-campus courses including the independent study program.
Currently, this program services approximately 40,000 people around the world.
On-line courses can be accessed at www.byu.edu/online.
