Osmond is Doing It All Over Again

DUBLIN, IRELAND -- Donny Osmond is trekking over Europe promoting his new album and bringing back memories of a 13-year-old star with a mega-watt smile. "It will never be that way again," the 43-year-old singer said with relief, "I wouldn't want it to be, I don't want to be acting like I am 13 again. I will never be able to create that level of hype and hysteria, it's about the music now."

The new CD, This is the Moment, is a collection of show tunes from Aida, Saturday Night Fever, and Jekyll and Hyde. It also has Our Kind Of Love from Andrew Lloyd Webber's new show, The Beautiful Game and a track from Bill Waylen of Riverdance. Rosie O'Donnell joins him for You've Got A Friend in Me from Toy Story and the bonus CD features a new recording of Puppy Love and other Donny classics.

While Donny's career has moved on, his image has not. "Mention the words Donny Osmond and it conjures up a fixed idea in people's minds. They're embarrassed to be associated with me because I'm a reminder of their early teens." Even his son Jeremy rebelled against the "Osmond thing". He caused Donny great anguish when he rejected the family's faith, pierced his tongue, dyed his hair and left home. He launched a band and was the opposite of his strait-laced dad. However, Jeremy, now 19, came back to the fold and is on a two-year mission in Italy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"Every parent goes through child rebellion and it's a very difficult time," Donny said. "But what's beautiful, and a great feeling, is when they do realize that Mum and Dad aren't that stupid after all." Donny has been married to Debbie for 23 years. They have five boys aged 22 to three.

After Soldier of Love, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and a new album, Donny is enjoying his comeback. "This really is a great moment for me. After 38 years in the business, I think I've finally cracked it. For the first time in my life, I feel able to embrace my whole career and be proud of the past - and be proud of Puppy Love. I'm happy to perform it after years of cringing at it."
